Chairman's AGM Review 2010
12th May 2010
Calne Woodlands Camera Club
Chairman’s Fourth Review for Annual General Meeting 19th April 2010
Although I am happy to continue in post, I would very willing to hand over to a successor, I am concerned that while we have settled into a pattern of events that appears to suit the needs of the Chairman and hopefully the members, this may have become a bit repetitive. I would welcome any views of members about future events and directions.
1 Presentations – Speakers - highlights in my opinion were Peter Knights Avebury, Arthur Kingdoms Underwater, Ann Cooks Wizards, Tracey Richs Wildlife and Gill Cardys Japan – a new Programme Sec would be a major bonus.
2 Presentations – Members – Dennis Price, Simon Mack, Edward Wood, Pam and myself are among those who presented our own work during the year. If you want to present your work please, please step forward and we can schedule you in.
3 Annual “MultiClub” Battle – now Digital, Six Clubs competed last November, Peter Weaver judged and a small profit was made, Thanks again to the set up crew. Battle this year on 8th November 2010.
4 WCPF Members Exhibition - Members assisted Stewarding of the 2009 Exhibition at Rooks Lane Frome. We had a record number of entries and acceptances for the Members Exhibition 2010 to be held at Bridport, open daily from 22nd April to 21st May 2010, no stewarding required by us this year.
5 Photofest 2009 – we again linked our major Annual Exhibition with the ten day Calne Music and Arts Festival (CMAF) and attracted 600+ visitors. We had 190 images displayed in the Heritage Centre with up to ten from each member. Thanks particularly Alan Smith and Pete Muckle for screen painting and set up, and many other members for stewarding. ,
PhotoFest 2010 we will be exhibiting from 2nd to 10th Oct, please start preparing your best images and try to be available for stewarding. The 35th Anniversary meeting at the Exhibition was a great success, and we will hold our Monday meeting there again this year on 4th Oct – your families and friends will also be welcome.
Pam and I have been asked to make a presentation for the Festival again, this time on the afternoon of Saturday 9th Oct. Our Arctic presentation last year sold 110 tickets and raised nearly £300 for the Heritage Centre, we would greatly appreciate the support of members again this year.
6 Presentation of Bristol International Salon 2009 – was very enjoyable with 80 tickets sold and a profit made. We also exhibited the Winning prints from our monthly competitions, thanks again to the set up crew. The 2010 event will be held on Monday 17th May – members free but please buy lots of tickets for guests.
7 Club External Events/Trips – The Graham Whistler Portrait Workshop was a great success, and resulted in some winning images, particularly of Trevor. We should hold more Events and Trips and I encourage any member inspired by a particular idea to step up and organise and manage a future trip - which I am sure would be supported by members given advance notice.
8 Tribattle with Wootton Bassett/Corsham – now digital we came a very close second at Corsham – host for next event is Wootton Bassett.
9 WCPF DPIC Competition – after submitting our 25 images, we finished 10th out of the 47 Clubs who entered. This is a great result when you see the very high standard of the 1,000 +images shown at the Comp in February. We are purchasing a CD of the images, and will show this on a Club night later this year.
10 Monthly competitions - have been organised tirelessly by Roger for years now, with recent assistance from Chris, Our sincerest thanks for his major contribution to this core of the Club. Quarterly Digital Image only comps have broadened the members competing, and standard of entries has again increased, with both newer and older members producing some great work.
11 321 Digital Audio Visual Competition Our new Annual event went very well, on the back of the tutorial from Tony Byram on Pictures to EXE. These short sharp programmes can be very entertaining, and we would like to see new work at our members evenings throughout the year.
12 Web site – Steve Romain has maintained our web site very wel,l but remember he requires the ongoing support of all members for competition winning entries and other ideas for the site.
13 Other Thanks - to Sandie as Hon Secretary for always being willing to assist, and to Pam as Hon Treasurer who produces impressive accounts covering our wide range of activities. To the small Monday night set up crew (particularly Don Wallis and Dennis) for the weekly transformation – more Monday assistants always welcome, even on an occasional basis. Also to Mike Thomas as Vice Chairman, and Mark as Auditor, and of course to Jean & Don Lovelock for the invaluable raffle income they generate.
14 Woodlands Social Club – I have visited many Camera Clubs recently, and realise how fortunate we are in having a venue that provides parking, refreshments, and storage. As we are all members of the Social Club please support it whenever you can.
I look forward to my Fifth year as Chairman and am hoping to continue the progress and success of the Club. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time with your ideas, suggestions or complaints.
