Chairman’s Report.
Chairman’s Fifth Annual Review for AGM 6th June 2011
As always, although I am prepared to continue in post for a sixth year, I would very willing to hand over to a successor. I remain concerned that we have settled into a programme of events that suits the interests of the Chairman (and hopefully some of the members), but this can become repetitive and I would welcome any suggestions or help from members to explore new directions.
1 Presentations – Speakers - highlights in my opinion were the Townend’s local nature images, Robert Harvey “By the Sea” and Dan Vidlers Crop Circles – a new Programme Sec would be a major bonus.
2 Presentations – Members – a number of Members presented our own work during the year. If you want to present your work please, please step forward and we would be delighted to schedule you in.
3 Annual “MultiClub” Battle – Eight Clubs competed last November, Margaret Collis judged and a small profit was made, Thanks again to the set up crew. Battle this year will be 14th November 2011.
4 WCPF Members Exhibition – This year organised by Pam & myself, will be at Rooks Lane Frome - open daily from 27th August to 10th Sept 2011, stewarding will be required probably for a couple of days, please let me know if you wish to volunteer.
5 Photofest 2010 – we again linked our major Annual Exhibition with the ten day Calne Music and Arts Festival (CMAF) and attracted 600+ visitors. We had 190 images displayed in the Heritage Centre with up to ten from each member. Thanks particularly Alan, Dennis, Ann, Chris & Mike for set up/take down, and many other members for stewarding.
PhotoFest 2011 will be from 8th to 16th Oct, please start preparing your best images and try to be available for stewarding. We will hold our Monday meeting at the Heritage Centre again this year on 10th Oct – your families and friends will also be welcome.
6 Presentation of Bristol International Salon 2010 and 2011 – very enjoyable evenings with plenty of visitors from other local clubs. We also exhibited the Winning prints from our monthly competitions, thanks again to the set up crew.
7 Club External Events/Trips – We should hold more Events and Trips and I encourage any member inspired by a particular idea to step up and organise and manage a future trip - which I am sure would be supported by members given advance notice.
8 Tribattle with Wootton Bassett/Corsham – we won this very convincingly at Wootton Bassett in March – Calne will host 2012 event next March.
9 WCPF DPIC Competition – after submitting our 20 images, we finished 10th out of the 51 Clubs who entered. This is another great result when you see the very high standard of the 1,000 +images shown at the Comp in February.
10 Monthly competitions – now being organised by Chris Grew. Our thanks for his major contribution to this core activity of the Club. The standard of entries has again increased, with both newer and older members producing super images. A plea - make life easier for the Comp Sec by bringing your entries in on time (or even early!)
11 321 Digital Audio Visual Competition Our second year of this annual event went very well with even higher standards than last year, and we would also like to see new work at our members evenings throughout the year.
12 Web site – Roger has maintained and improved our web site very effectively, but remember he requires the ongoing support of all members for competition winning entries and other ideas for the site.
13 Other Thanks - to Pam as Hon Treasurer (for seven years!) who produces immaculate accounts covering our wide range of activities. To the small Monday night set up crew for the weekly transformation – more Monday assistants always welcome at 7.20pm, even on an occasional basis. Also to Mike Thomas as Vice Chairman, and Mark as Auditor, and of course to Jean & Don Lovelock for the invaluable raffle income they have generated. In fact the time has come for Don & Jean to semi retire by winding down the raffle to Comp night only, so huge thanks for the funds they have generated over many, many years,
14 Woodlands Social Club – I have visited many Camera Clubs, and appreciate how fortunate we are with parking, refreshments, and storage. As we are all members of the Social Club, please support it whenever you can.
Over the next twelve months I would like our members evenings to focus more on critiqueing our own images, with a view to continuing the constant improvement in standards. Constructive comments by our peers is very valuable, but comments must be made (and received) in a positive mode to gain maximum benefit.
I look forward to my Sixth year as Chairman and will try to continue the progress and success of the Club. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time with your ideas, suggestions or complaints.
Points Arising:
Alan Smith: advised several ‘outings’ the NFFA trip to Salisbury Cathedral and the possibility of a mini bus to Bliss, which he will look into.
Dennis Price: members evenings critiques need to be carefully managed from a time point of view.
WCPG Projected Image Comp: members could critique their entry at members evening on 4th July for input by the 16th July.
Simon Mack: suggested that after a competition prints could be retained for a members evening critique.

Vice Chairman Mike Thomas
Hon. Treasurer Pam Lane Hon. Secretary Sandie Mangnall
Competition Secretary Chris Grew
Programme Secretary VACANT /Eddy Lane
Battle Secretary Alan Smith
Equipment Officer Maurice Hamblin
Web Master Roger Bryan
Committee Member Dennis Price
Committee Member Peter Muckle
Hon. Auditor Mark Ludlow
All officers were willing to stand and elected on mass; proposed George Dacam, seconded Alan Smith.
Additional election to the committee: Mike Venner ; proposed Pam Lane, seconded Mark Ludlow
Meeting Arrangements – £1 Fee per Meeting, Raffle etc.
Since Jan 2011, the Camera Club has had to pay rent to the Social Club at a rate of £7.00 per hour. In order to cover this a temporary measure was put in place that the raffle should charge £1 per ticket. However after many years of organising the raffle Don & Jean Lovelock would like to step down, but are prepared to run a raffle once a month for a lottery prize ticket. It was agreed that a £1 attendance fee will be collected in an honesty contribution box on the nights that there is no raffle.
Summer Shut Down: As the camera club is now pre-booking the skittle alley and the main hall, it was agreed that there would be a break in August, for members to take photographs. A suggestion was accepted from Mike Venner that this would be the opportunity for a couple of set subject projects.
The Kennet & Avon Canal
Street Scene (including Candid)
To be judged when the club resumes on Monday 5th Sept - two prints per subject per member.
AOB.
Mike Venner offered the services of his band to raise money for the club.
Alan Smith requested the e-mails of members for contacting for outings etc
Eddy Lane mentioned the prospect of a Black & White Printing workshop being run at the Woodlands by Bob Moore later this year.
Eddy Lane clarified the new preliminary qualifications for PAGB awards, and advised the WCPF would be organising an advisory workshop for October.
Meeting Close 9:40pm.
